Background: Daioh Koenma was born into a wealthy and influential family on Sado Island, the only son of Sado Boarding School’s headmaster, Daioh Enma, and a woman whom he has no memory of, given that she left only a few years after he was born for reasons unknown. He had grown up in an extremely strict environment, studying often to grant him the best education as possible and ordinarily taken care of by a nanny. Due to the overload of books and papers he had to tackle on a daily basis, he eventually developed a slight anger problem, and more often than not, it was the nanny who was within firing range. The anger management classes he was enrolled in shortly after this problem began didn’t seem to work – he’d been moved from one controlled environment to another, which only proved to infuriate him further, and eventually the nanny, in the middle of nursing her battle wounds, gingerly suggested that he take up some sort of hobby to keep himself occupied with during the times he didn’t have to work, such as keeping a collection of some sort, and it was this suggestion that brought on one of Koenma’s more unique, more hidden quirks – pacifier hoarding.

As a young adult now, it’s understandable that Koenma’s embarrassed about the whole thing – he keeps the multitude of boxes hidden away in the very back of his closet at home behind as much junk as he can stuff in, ensuring that if anybody tried to get in there, they wouldn’t be getting out very easily. Only a few people actually know about the existence of the pacifier hoard, and Koenma’s made sure that they are trustworthy enough to zip their lip (or else). As for the anger issues, he’s better able to control his temper, though he does have his occasional fit now and then – the good news is, however, he rarely relies on physical aggression to get his point across anymore (except for certain people, in which case it’s usually a backwards sort of affectionate gesture), finding that kicking them repeatedly in the ego with his words is a much more satisfying approach.

All in all, in comparison with others, Koenma hasn’t had a terribly difficult life, but he’s grown up with a short temper and issues with insecurity that manifests itself in an infuriatingly haughty attitude, making him not the easiest person to get along with. However, this does not necessarily make him unkind – while Koenma is a very proud, stubborn person, who is more often than not only callous involuntarily rather than intentionally, he also has a compassionate streak a mile long, as well as an excellent sense of right and wrong. Meaning : he can either be your best friend if you do a little digging under the surface … or, alternatively, he can be your worst nightmare, which unfortunately is the option he gets the most amusement out of.
